GETTING TO KNOW THE TEAM:

We asked our newest team members to share a bit more about themselves, both personally and professionally. Here's what they had to say!

1.) How did you get started in the hotel industry?

Dustin: My first role in the hospitality space was doing marketing for a resort and real estate development company focused on building sustainable and eco-friendly luxury resorts and communities in Latin America. Getting to travel to Panama for over a month was a great way to get me hooked.

Alysia: My first job out of college was working as an administrative assistant to a 10 person sales team at a big resort in Florida. The management company promoted me to a sales manager at a nearby hotel and so began my career in the hotel space.

Joseph: Working the front desk at an Oakwood property in Seal Beach.

2.) What behavior or personality trait do you most attribute to your success, and why?

Dustin: My flexibility. The world, our industry, and technology are changing every day. I've learned the benefits of being willing to alter your course of action and way of thinking firsthand.

Alysia: My perseverance and authenticity have definitely attributed the most to my success. I've heard feedback on this time and time again that I'm easy to talk to and feel comfortable with. My tenacity, persistence, and follow-up have brought me success.

Joseph: Curiosity, because it pushes me to explore.

3.) What is the best career lesson you have learned so far?

Dustin: Success isn't overnight. It takes a lot of time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears to propel a big idea forward. Don't ever be afraid to roll up your sleeves and get to work.

Alysia: I've learned the importance of maintaining positive relationships, each part of your journey is a building block into the next. The hotel industry is small and I value the connections I make along the way.

Joseph: Don't be afraid to fail and try new things.

4.) What trend do you hope makes a comeback?

Dustin: You know, there isn't a side ponytail I haven't fallen in love with.

Alysia: Big hair.

Joseph: Drive-in Movies. Those were fun when I was a kid.

5.) What is your favorite vacation destination?

Dustin: My fiancè and I just visited Maui, Hawaii recently and fell in love with the islands. We can't wait to go back ASAP.

Alysia: Italy.

Joseph: Italy.

6.) What energizes you outside of work?

Dustin: Trying new recipes, baking, and eating at trendy and upscale restaurants. Fortunately, my passion for food is also met with an equal interest in fitness, so I do my best to keep an active and healthy lifestyle despite my huge sweet tooth.

Alysia: Focusing on my well-being and fitness.

Joseph: Family and competition through sports.

7.) What is a talent you have that few people know about?

Dustin: I can walk around on my hands and hold a handstand for over a minute.

Alysia: I enjoy refinishing vintage furniture and repurposing pieces with chalk paint, staining, distressing and antiquing techniques. It's fun to give old furniture a new life and purpose.

Joseph: I don't know how talented I was at it, but I know few people know about it because the ratings reflected it. I hosted a radio show in college.
